Eating With GERD

Chronic Heartburn (GERD)

This blog is for all of us that have been diagnosed with GERD or who my have heartburn periodically.

What is GERD?  The medical term for it is Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease or GERD for short.  It is a chronic condition where the Lower Esophageal Sphincter muscle relaxes  periodically or fails to close properly while or after eating.  This causes the stomach contents to back up into the esophagus.  The stomach acids (hydrochloric acid) that back up into the esophagus cause irritation, burning and scarring that can lead (in rare cases) to cancer.

Your diet, along with any medication recommended by your doctor,  is very important to controlling symptoms of GERD.  So, as a fellow sufferer, I hope to create a place for all of us to share ideas, recipes and ingredient substitutes as well as any fast food ideas that are safe!

I’m just like you, a normal person who is now faced with managing this problem and still maintaining a satisfying social life.  I love to eat!  Unfortunately, most of what I love is now the enemy.  Let’s do this together!  Post your ideas and receipes.  But please, no pyramid scheme sales for miracle cures!

I’ll be posting interesting facts and links to informative sites.  Please share your findings as well.
